The Byker Pantry

The Byker Pantry was launched 6 years ago in the heart of the Byker Wall to support people struggling with food and general poverty.

The vision for the project was to develop an alternative to a food bank and one where people had the dignity of choice. The Byker Pantry aims to save people at least 50% on the RRP of food and household items and often saves people even more.

The project now has over 250 members (households) and supports around 350 people every week. A regular user of The Byker Pantry can save £600+ a year, which is a significant amount of money for individuals and families on low incomes.

This project is a place of community and is tackling isolation. It has also seen people volunteer, receive a reference and then move into paid employment.

By Joining the Food Dignity Alliance you will be supporting this project with its day to day running costs and helping it to expand to support even more people.
